Bank Indonesia plays a strategic role in driving the transition to a green economy and finance.

Through various sustainable policies and initiatives, Bank Indonesia is committed to supporting inclusive, resilient, and environmentally friendly economic development. This commitment is reflected in strengthening the green financing ecosystem, facilitating green MSMEs, implementing a carbon emission calculator, and cross-institutional collaboration in support of the national green taxonomy. This aims to educate and inspire the public about the sustainability agenda.

Circular Economy

A circular economy is an innovative approach that manages resources through the 9R principle to transform waste into economic value, while extending the useful life of products and encouraging creative solutions and the creation of new jobs. In line with this spirit, Karya Kreatif Indonesia 2025 presents a talk show "Circular Economy Innovation: Hidden Potential Behind Waste" featuring business actors from various sectors, ranging from Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology for organic waste processing, furniture made from recycled plastic, the use of used cooking oil for soap and aromatherapy candles, to sustainable fashion based on pineapple leaf fiber. This talk show aims to provide practical insights and encourage collaboration in developing a sustainable economy.

Green Island

As part of the Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2025, Bank Indonesia presents Green Island as a thematic area specifically designed to educate and inspire the public about the importance of transitioning to a green economy. Green Island serves as an interactive platform showcasing various sustainability initiatives, both those initiated by Bank Indonesia and its strategic partners in the financial sector. Through a visual, educational, and participatory approach, Green Island is expected to increase public awareness of circular economy practices, the commitment of Bank Indonesia's work units in supporting the green agenda, and the tangible contribution of member banks of the Indonesian Sustainable Finance Initiative (IKBI) in accelerating sustainable financing.

Green MSME Guidelines

As part of its commitment to promoting an inclusive green economy, Bank Indonesia has launched various programs to support MSMEs in transitioning to more sustainable business practices. One important initiative is the development and publication of the Green MSME Guidelines, which assist MSMEs in identifying, assessing, and strengthening sustainability aspects in their business processes. In these guidelines, MSMEs are classified into three categories based on their level of implementation of environmentally friendly practices: eco-adopters (MSMEs that have begun implementing basic environmentally friendly practices), eco-entrepreneurs (MSMEs that have integrated sustainability principles into their business models), and eco-innovators (MSMEs that actively create innovative products or production processes based on green solutions).

Green Calculator

The Green Calculator is a free, easy-to-use mobile application for calculating greenhouse gas emissions, complete with a guidebook and worksheets, intended for banks and businesses. As part of the national effort towards a sustainable economy, Bank Indonesia is collaborating with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the National Greenhouse Gas Methodology Panel Team, to present this innovation as a step to support the transition to environmentally friendly practices.

Green Financing

Bank Indonesia supports the transition to a green economy with various policy incentives, such as down payment relief for the purchase of environmentally friendly homes and vehicles through green mortgages with up to 100% LTV and green vehicle loans with 0% down payment. Furthermore, through the Macroprudential Incentive Financing Ratio (RPIM) policy, BI provides incentives to banks that channel financing to green MSMEs, low-income communities, and green projects through instruments such as sustainable bonds and the SDG Indonesia One platform.

Bank Indonesia is strengthening its Green KLM policy to encourage financing to priority sectors such as downstreaming, housing, tourism, and emerging sectors such as automotive, trade, social services, and clean energy (LGA). This policy, which came into effect in October 2023 and was strengthened in June 2024, provides incentives for banks that channel credit to these sectors, including an additional 0.5% incentive specifically for green financing. With this policy strengthening, total incentives are expected to increase from IDR 165 trillion to around IDR 280 trillion by the end of 2024.

Green Jobs Study

Green jobs are jobs that directly contribute to environmental conservation, carbon emission reduction, and efficient resource utilization through innovative solutions to sustainability challenges. As part of Karya Kreatif Indonesia 2025, the Study Dissemination event "Challenges and Opportunities for Green Jobs: Welcoming the Future Economy" featured presentations from researchers, practitioners, and policymakers on the dynamics of the green job market. This session discussed regulatory barriers, workforce empowerment strategies, and cross-sector collaboration models to strengthen the green jobs ecosystem, with the hope of producing concrete recommendations to encourage sustainable, inclusive and competitive job growth.
